Ten nights, one private group

Le Tour D'or, the Golden Tour

Eleven days from the Royal Castle to Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, Zanzibar and back. Tap a day to read it.

Day 1Arrival day, resting at Afrikando Royal Castle

Guests arrive and settle in at the Afrikando Royal Castle. The first day is for rest, so the journey begins refreshed.

Day 2Touring Bagamoyo city

Bagamoyo lies on Tanzania's coast, north of Dar es Salaam. It is a town of art, culture and fascinating stories, and it has been nominated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. It was once an important trading port and the capital of German East Africa, and the stopover for the slave and ivory caravans travelling from Lake Tanganyika to Zanzibar. The body of Dr David Livingstone was carried through its port on the way to Europe.

  • Arabic buildings with thick walls and carved wooden doors, and narrow streets
  • The German colonial administration office, the old post office and the hanging tower
  • The art market, old mosques and church
  • The Caravan Serai museum and the fish market

After the tour, guests return to Afrikando Royal Castle.

Day 3Kilimanjaro scenic flight, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti

Scenic flight over Mount Kilimanjaro

In the early morning, guests board a chartered aircraft for a 70-minute aerial tour of Africa's highest mountain. The landscape below moves from plains and forest to dramatic volcanic formations, with a view very few travellers ever see.

  • The snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak rising above the clouds
  • The twin volcanic cones of Kibo and Mawenzi
  • Glaciers and ice fields shimmering in the morning light
  • Coffee plantations, rainforest and alpine zones layered beneath the mountain
  • A panorama across northern Tanzania and, on clear days, into Kenya

Early morning gives clear views, soft golden light and excellent photographs.

Ngorongoro Crater

The journey continues by air to the Ngorongoro Crater, often called Africa's Garden of Eden. It is the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world, a basin about 40 kilometres wide with permanent water that draws more than 25,000 large mammals all year. Guests take a daylight game drive and can see all of the Big Five in one place, with green crater walls, savannah, wetlands, acacia thickets and flamingo-filled soda lakes.

Evening in the Serengeti

At dusk guests climb the crater rim and continue to Serengeti National Park, where they settle into the luxury safari camp. The day ends with a bonfire dinner under the stars, cooked by Master Chef Fred Uisso: African barbecue, flame-grilled meats and vegetables, and signature African curries. Drinks include Serengeti, Safari and Kilimanjaro beers, Dodoma wines and mbege, the traditional brew of the Chagga people.

Day 4Serengeti National Park: balloon safari and game drive

Hot-air balloon at dawn

The day begins with a hot-air balloon safari, the finest way to see the Serengeti at sunrise. From the air, guests watch elephants, zebras and giraffes moving below, lions and cheetahs preparing for early hunts, and rivers and woodlands rarely reached by vehicle. The flight ends with a champagne bush breakfast laid out under acacia trees.

Daylight game drive

After breakfast, a full game drive: herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo, lions resting after the hunt, giraffes, hippos and crocodiles, and countless birds. The Serengeti is home to the richest concentration of predators in Africa and the Great Migration, the largest animal movement on Earth.

Evening at camp

Guests return to the luxury camp to unwind by the fire or in their tented suites, then share a gourmet dinner of premium ingredients and African-inspired flavours.

Day 5Serengeti, Meserani Snake Park, Arusha, back to the Royal Castle

After an early breakfast, guests leave the Serengeti and drive toward Meserani Snake Park in Arusha, with a last game drive along the way.

Meserani Snake Park and Maasai Cultural Museum

The park is home to an impressive collection of East African reptiles, including black and green mambas, puff adders, rock pythons, spitting cobras, lizards, tortoises and crocodiles. Guests learn about their habitats and the park's role in reptile rescue and conservation. The Maasai Cultural Museum shows traditional bomas, family life, cattle-keeping, jewellery crafting, rituals and the change in Maasai life over time.

The visit ends with a traditional Maasai warrior breakfast of game meat soup with local herbs and boiled bananas, then a dance with the Maasai troupe, famous for the high-jumping adumu.

Flight to Afrikando Royal Castle

Guests continue to Arusha Airport for a scheduled or chartered flight to the Royal Castle. The rest of the day is at leisure: a spa or massage, the swimming pool, premium drinks, a stroll through the grounds or rest in a private suite.

Days 6 to 8Royal Zanzibar yacht sojourn

Day 6: Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar

Guests leave Dar es Salaam at 07:00 aboard the Afrikando Mighty Yacht, with a full breakfast as the Indian Ocean opens up. The first stop is the Fungu Yassini sandbank for private swimming in clear water. The yacht then glides toward Stone Town, with a gourmet lunch on board near Nakupenda Sandbank or Chumbe Island and snorkelling in pristine water. At about 17:30 it anchors off Park Hyatt Zanzibar for a sunset reception with tapas, followed by dinner on board.

Day 7: Island heritage and an evening at sea

A leisurely private breakfast on board, lunch at 13:00, then a private guided visit to historic Prison Island. At 15:30 the yacht sails for the calm waters of Pungume Island for an evening cruise, ending with an exclusive dinner on board.

Day 8: Dolphins and the royal return

After an early breakfast, guests swim with dolphins and snorkel privately in untouched water. The yacht returns to Dar es Salaam with a gourmet lunch on board, and guests are escorted to Afrikando Royal Castle for the night.

Day 9Dar es Salaam city and night

After breakfast at the Royal Castle, guests may join a short culinary demonstration by our chefs, running until lunch. In the afternoon, a guided tour of the city's main sights:

  • St Joseph's Metropolitan Roman Catholic Cathedral, a landmark of striking architecture and colonial-era heritage
  • The National Museum and House of Culture, with Tanzania's history, archaeology and cultural change
  • The Fish Market, where the daily rhythm of coastal life plays out

After dinner, the evening moves to the city's nightlife: discotheques playing Afrobeat, Bongo Flava and international music, and live bands, in a lively but secure setting.

Day 10Grand farewell celebration

A free day at the Royal Castle to relax and reflect while the Afrikando team prepares the evening. At night guests are invited to a farewell party in the castle, with select public figures and government officials invited to attend.

  • An extensive gourmet buffet of African and international cuisine
  • Premium local and international drinks
  • Circus performances and magic shows
  • Live dance blending tradition and modern artistry
Day 11Departure

A relaxed last morning at the Royal Castle, with the team attending to guests until it is time to transfer to the airport for a smooth, unhurried departure.

One week after departure, each guest receives a private digital link with photos, videos and highlights of the whole tour, as a keepsake of the journey.
